Not only is this the first art piece having nothing to do with school that I have been able to do in a very long time, it is the infamous fake-fake boob piece that I was chattering about on facebook about five or six months ago! After many, many experimental materials issues and coming to peace with the fact that I was just not going to be able to incorporate everything that I wanted to, I am finally finished with the two piece series called “Monster Factory (models # G597329 and B597329)”.
The concept of these pieces is fairly self-evident so I don’t feel that I need to do a lot of explaining here but will say that I started these pieces during a time that I was feeling rather venomous anger regarding the arbitrary standards of beauty that are set for women. In other words, I was feeling fat and not pretty and pissed off that fat is so often considered not pretty. That is when the more macabre side of my brain took over for the sensitive, poetic side of my brain and what you see below is the result.
You will have to excuse the photos as the last working light bulb in my studio blew out a few hours before my friend showed up with her superior photography skills and fancy camera. I now have new light bulbs and have plans for her to come over and take new photos for me (my skills behind the camera are sadly lacking). I did get some good closeups of most details…
This one is a bit blurry due to the lack of light in the room and desire to capture the “boob lights” in the pieces. Again, I promise to take more formal and better quality photos very soon and repost! The center of this piece is real chalkboard created using chalkboard paint and the scribbles formulas are from the “golden ratio”; if you are unfamiliar with this do look it up, it is very interesting stuff. The tags on each lady skeleton read as follows: (left side) ” Model # G597329; fiery redhead; willful and given to anger but worth it if you like a challenge” and (right side)” Model # B597329; Submissive blond; sweet but prone to crying jags; can be rewarded with shoes”.
The next few photos are close up details… I hope you all enjoy! I am currently working on a series about an imaginary little dude named “Forgotten Henry”. I will post updates as I finish these shadowbox pieces.
